Summary
Objective: In this study two drug combinations; atropine-neostigmine and glycopyrrolate-neostigmine were compared according to their effects on heart rate, blood pressure and arrythmogenicity. Research Design: Conduction of a randomized, double-blind, clinical trial, method of randomization: simple. Inclusion criteria: patient between 50-70 year old, ASA physical status I, undergoing cataract surgery under general anesthesia with endotracheal tube or laryngeal mask. Exclusion criteria: Patients with electrolyte abnormalities, cardiovascular problems and using the drugs that affect heart rate and also patients with difficult intubation were excluded from the study. Intervention: One hundred elderly patient between 50-70 year old with ASA physical status I, undergoing cataract surgery were randomly allocated in two groups : I) glycopyrrolate-neostigmine (G) and II) Atropine- neostigmine (A)At the end of the operation reversal of the muscle relaxant effects in group I was conducted with combination of atropine-neostigmine and glycopyrrolate-neostigmine in group ІІ. Heart rate, arrhythmia and blood pressure were recorded at 4 time points: 1) before induction of anesthesia .2) after administration of anesthetic drugs and before drug reversal of muscle relaxation 3) Three minutes after reversal of neuromuscular blockade. 4) ten minutes after reversal of neuromuscular blockade.
